What Is Outdoor Streetwear? The Story Behind 9000M, India's Climbing Streetwear Brand

9000M is an Indian outdoor streetwear brand launched in 2026 by two teenage competitive climbers, based in Indore. We make premium oversized tees, baby tees, waffle knits, ringer tees, and heavyweight joggers inspired by climbing and mountain culture, sold exclusively at 9000m.in. This is the story of the brand — and a quick primer on the style movement we belong to.

What is outdoor streetwear?

Outdoor streetwear — often called gorpcore — is the crossover between technical outdoor gear and everyday street style. Think mountain-brand function meeting city-brand attitude: heavyweight fabrics, relaxed silhouettes, and graphics rooted in the outdoors rather than the runway. Globally, the movement was pushed forward by climbers and hikers wearing their gear in the city; in India, it's a young and fast-growing scene, driven by a new wave of homegrown D2C brands rather than imports.

Why the name 9000M?

Mt. Everest, the highest point on Earth, stands at 8,849 metres. No mountain on the planet reaches 9,000 metres. That's the whole idea — 9000M is a height that doesn't exist yet. Above the world. Above the rest. For two climbers building a brand, it wasn't just a name; it was the mindset the brand is built on.

Built by climbers, not a boardroom

9000M started with a simple frustration: as competitive climbers, we couldn't find streetwear that spoke to the mountains and still worked in the city. Everything was either pure technical gear or pure fashion. So we built the middle ourselves — heavyweight cotton (190–290 GSM across the range), structured oversized fits, and graphics with a point of view.

What we make

The 9000M range currently covers oversized graphic tees, fitted baby tees, textured waffle-knit longsleeves, retro ringer tees, boxy fit shirts, and heavyweight joggers — all unisex, all designed in India, all available only at 9000m.in.

More than clothing

9000M runs community events like the 9K Community Runs with local run clubs, because the brand belongs outdoors — on trails, walls, and streets — not just on a website. Follow @9000m.in on Instagram for drops and community events.
